In a remote corner of the Indo-Pacific lies a group of tropical islands called the Andaman and Nicobar. Of the 571 islands that make up the archipelago, only 37 are inhabited, with the majority of the residents being Indians. Isolated tribal communities living in the jungles were the only inhabitants of the islands before that, and they all showed signs of hostility towards outsiders. The extreme isolation of the islands, travel restrictions, and prohibited regions inhabited by indigenous peoples all contributed to the challenge of capturing the sounds. Many days and weeks have passed alone in these tropical jungles, documenting every sound I’ve heard while listening to the ambiences of these faraway islands.
Tropical paradise, where some of the last real untouched tribes still exist in the thick jungles surrounded by the vast ocean.
